Allowing attachments blocked by default in Outlook for Windows XP

The information in this article applies to:

Outlook
Windows XP

SUMMARY

Outlook blocks potentionally dangerous attachments by default. Sometimes you will want to gain access to these. The following registry change will allow this.

SOLUTION

Go to Start/Run and type in regedit and click OK

Find

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\microsoft\office\10.0\outlook\security

(if it doesn’t exist create the office\10.0\outlook\security keys)

Now when you’re in the security key, create one called “Level1Remove” as a String Value

Then under the parameters add the extensions of files you wish to allow to pass in the following format:

.exe;.com;.htm

You can add as many as you want, just separate each entry with a semicolon.

Once these changes have been made, you only need to restart your Outlook mail client for it to work.
